Sub:Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with the subject "Communication Skill-I & II"

This Directorate is examining the issue of candidates who have passed the, Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with the subject "Communication Skill-I & II" which covers technical writing skills, communication skill in addition to literature coverage, can be treated as equivalent to English subject or not.

As per the para 5 of M.S. Notice 24 of 2002, candidates having passed the Diploma in Mechanical Engineering should have obtained 50% marks in English subject in 10th or 12th or in Degree/Diploma Course by the Board or any University. Hence the Diploma holders who have opted the subjects Communication Skill - I & II are facing problems while taking admission to the Trainee Marine Engineering Course in the absence of specific English as one of the subject.

The matter has been examined and the Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education, Mumbai have stated that the subject Communication Skill I & II covers technical writing skills, communication skills in addition to literature coverage. They have further clarified that the subject Communication Skill I (Code No.6581) and Communication Skill II (6587) can be treated as equivalent to the subject "English " in general.

The Training Institutes/Workshops may please note the above, while giving admission to Degree/Diploma holder for Marine Engineering Training as a trainee.
