  1. The Nautical Wing of the Directorate has issued examination circular No. 8 of 2005 substituting 'function': pass to subject 'pass' for the STCW examination. The Directorate has received many queries seeking clarification with regard to college attendance in the present system of subject 'pass'.
  2. The matter has been examined in the Directorate and the Chief Examiner of Master & Mates has taken the following decision:
  3. The candidate who is attending post-sea preparatory course is required to attend the course in full.
  4. The certificate as issued by the respective institutes shall reflect the performance of the internal assessment test of the candidate in each subject. In the cases where performance is not satisfactory or the candidate has not attended the classes in view of his not appearing for that subject, it should be clearly reflected in the assessment report
  5. The criteria of attendance shall be worked out by the institute subject-wise and the DGS guidelines for the minimum attendance percentage shall remain the same.
